(MENAFN - Arab News) The Ministry of Health recruited some 600 consulting physicians to work in central hospitals and remote areas of the Kingdom as part of a visiting doctors program.
The program is aimed at alleviating the suffering of patients with intricate diseases and shortening the waiting period for patients in remote areas, the Ministry's Undersecretary for Hospital Affairs, Oqail bin Jamaan Al-Ghamdi told Saudi Press Agency.
He said the program is also meant to benefit from the medical experience of those physicians to promote performance in the targeted hospitals and minimize the number of cases referred by them. The Ministry of Health has attracted consulting physicians with the highest qualifications in different specialties from Egypt, Jordan and Pakistan.
The Ministry initiated the visiting doctors program to peripheral areas to upgrade health services for patients in their localities so they will not need to move for medical treatment. The consulting physicians normally work for 3-5 days during the visit, depending on the number of patients.
