Biographies of some of the featured artists:
Yom de Saint Phalle, born in 1970, started to paint and mould in his early childhood; later on he studied political science and journalism. He accepted an invitation by Niki de Saint Phalle, his cousin, to develop his artistic training in San Diego, California. He began his work in sculpture as a welder, then went on to mosaics and finally turned to composite materials. Deeply impressed by the nihilistic absurdity of war, he developed an artistic language which offers a different approach in sculpture by revealing the absence of material rather than the material itself. Yom lives and works in Paris, but also travels around the world to show his works and engage a dialogue with key international art critics and collectors.
Andre C. Meyerhans, the artist and architect, who did the concept design of the Garhoud Bridge in Dubai, holds a Masters in Architecture degree from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETHZ), a federal degree in Marketing from London Business School. Andre evolves his designs along academic studies that portray a synthesis between objects, art and architecture. His work is often based on context-related investigations or on parameter interventions that reach thought reinterpretation and enhancement of life.
Nicolas d'Olce was born in 1962 in Draguigan (Var) and graduated from the 'Ecole Superiere des Art Graphiques' Paris. He lives and works in Paris. Nicolas D'Olce proposed his own vision of all these incidents in group exhibition in ProArt Gallery. From a first virgin planetary surface: his favorite Plexiglass material, he ideates imaginary rough landscapes that unfold in the depth of color, sharp contrasts and staggering empty blacks. The surface is ready for his uncontrolled strokes as if they were meteorites shaping a newborn world.
Gerard Pair is a charismatic French artist, painter and photographer. After 40 years of creation with Polymer painting on canvas Altuglass, he has also decided to work on Photography & Design. His artworks have been showcased in more than 200 exhibitions around the world. For Gerard, painting has always been a flash, an epidermis, a skin made of colored lights that rub themselves, pass over each others like caresses.
Laure Calvie is a French contemporary visual artist and painter. She is graduated from 'Ecole des Beaux Arts' in Paris and worked for many designer brands. Like a traveller painter, the artist went in Pacific Island to make inventory of the Flora and Fauna of Polynesia. Her works are exhibited in several different museums.
Lucas Surtie, graduated with a first class honors degree in graphic design at the 'Queensland College of Art', Australia in 2001. He has worked as a designer in several progressive Australian studios including 'Inkahoots' a socially and ethically responsible office working predominantly in the Arts, Cultural and Community sectors. Furthering his skills in brand creation and communication, Lucas joined the internationally acclaimed Wolff Olins office in Dubai in 2009. Lucas is an intuitive designer with highly developed creative ability. He has significant artistic talent that is versatile and focused. His award-winning work has been featured in various local and international design exhibitions and publications. Currently freelancing, he has time to explore his artistic roots, experimenting with various print and production methods and interpreting the regions influence on his work.
Val Mace (born in 1986), graduated from the 'Ecole Superieure des Beaux Arts' Nantes. He lives and works in Brussels. As a young artist, his work includes sculptures and installations, where he develops an allegorical universe from ordinary objects. Pro Art Gallery will showcase his ''Machine Drawings'', which are a combination of the delicacy of real drawing and the rigid, structured system of mechanics. (His technique reminds us of the style of Jean Tinguely).
This 'IN Design' exhibition will run from 7 November to 21 November 2012, at ProArt Gallery Dubai 'Palm Strip Mall Jumeirah 1 opposite Jumeirah Grand Mosque, Dubai U.A.E.
