The European shares plummeted throughout the day to drop by the most in two weeks and accordingly close the day in red as pessimism is spread throughout the EU stock market as on one hand HSBC Holdings Plc and CGGVeritas reported earnings that disappointed investors while that on the other hand it is speculated that Greece will struggle deeply to get a bailout.
Indices performance came as follows:
CAC 40 Index
The French index fell 43.96 points or 1.26% to finally close at 3448.50. The index started the session at 3468.71 and recorded throughout the day its highest level at 3488.50 and its lowest level at 3473.57.
The worst performing shares in terms of subtracted value for the index were led by the Total SA share as it plummeted 1.94% to end at €68.09, following is the Sanofi SA share as it shed 1.88% to settle at €98.56, while coming in third is the LOreal SA share which slumped to close at €38.84.
Best performing stocks within the index were the Alcatel-Lucent share which inclined 0.67% to settle at €48.53, in second place came the Danone SA share which closed higher by 1.16% at €00.
DAX Index
German equities retreated today as the benchmark index DAX 30 closed the session lower by 37.38 points or 0.51% at 7326.47. The index started the session at 7320.98 and recorded throughout the day its highest level at 7304.45 and its lowest level at 7337.47.
The worst performing shares in terms of subtracted value for the index were led by the Deutsche Bank AG share as it plummeted 2.05% to end at €15.32, following is the Henkel AG share as it shed 1.41% to settle at €62.75, while coming in third is the Deutsche Boerse AG share which slumped 2.90% to close at €1.56.
Best performing stocks within the index were the Commerzbank AG share which inclined 1.09% to settle at €125.40, in second place came the Muencherer Rueckversicherungs AG share which closed higher by 2.42% at €42.46 and in the third place came the Merck KGAA share which inclined 0.37% to settle at €98.52.
FTSE 100 Index
The British benchmark index ended the day lower to settle at 5839.06 with a loss of 29.49 points or 0.50%. The index started the session at 5868.55 and recorded throughout the day its highest level at 5825.55 and its lowest level at 5868.55.
The worst performing shares in terms of subtracted value for the index were led by the Rio Tinto share as it plummeted 1.29% to end at £618.00, following is the HSBC Holdings PLC share as it shed 0.90% to settle at £441.20, while coming in third is the BP PLC share which slumped 2.15% to close at £314.50.
Best performing stocks within the index were the British American Tobacco PLC share which inclined 1.65% to settle at £1384.00, in second place came the GlaxoSmithKline PLC share which closed higher by 4.57% at £183.00 and in the third place came the Weir Group PLC share which inclined 0.98% to settle at £3128.00.
