Oman set to host 2016 Youth Worlds

(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Oman is set to host the 2016 Youth World Championship after the sultanate's bid was recommended, among four bids, for the final approval at the International Sailing Federation (ISAF) conference in Dun Laoghaire, Ireland, on Saturday.David Graham, Oman Sail's CEO, and Issa al Ismaily, Oman Sail's events director, made the bid presentation to the ISAF Youth World Championship's sub-committee.After a lengthy discussion, the sub-committee decided to recommend Al Musannah Sports City as the venue to the events committee. The ISAF sub-committee's go-ahead means Oman's bid will now have to be approved by the events committee and the ISAF Council, which usually endorses the sub-committee's recommendations. The ISAF had also received bid presentations from Buenos Aires, Argentina, Medemblik, the Netherlands, and Gdynia, Poland.Muscat Daily had first reported last month that Oman is among the four nations that had bid to host the Youth World Championship. The last edition of the worlds was held in Dublin and the next three will be staged in Limassol, Cyprus (2013), Tavira, Portugal (2014) and Langkawi, Malaysia (2015).
