Australia October car sales increase 12.2%


(MENAFN) A new report showed that sales of new vehicles in Australia grew by 12.2 percent in October, compared to a year earlier, driven by higher demand for SUVs and commercial vehicles, Reuters reported. According to the Australian Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries (VFACTS), total vehicle sales in Australia hit 95,584 last month, compared to 85,196 a year ago. This was the third straight month of robust vehicle numbers and a clearly contravenes with weaker retail sales. The report also showed that September sales were also strong, with a 1 percent increase. For the 10 months to October, sales grew a solid 9.7 percent to 918,258, compared to the same period last year. SUVs sales last month rose by 26.2 percent year-on-year, while the light commercial vehicles' sales increased by 19.7 percent and the heavy truck market soared 15.1 percent.
