(MENAFN - Arab Times) The Court of Appeals presided over by Judge Hassan Al-Shimmari imposed a fine of KD 100 on an Egyptian man after revoking the Lower Court's verdict wherein he was sentenced to one year in prison with hard labor and then deportation afterward for assaulting a policeman on official duty.

Public Prosecution charged the defendant for physical assault after he allegedly attacked a policeman while on duty, resulting in injuries to the officer- as specified in the medical report.

Defense lawyer Abdulmohsin Al-Qattan told the court that his client has no previous criminal record; thus, it's the duty of the court to show leniency and mercy to the defendant in the issuance of its verdict, as per Article 2/208 of the penal code.
