(MENAFN - Muscat Daily) An Indian housemaid has been allegedly bitten and battered by her employer's wife. She was later arrested following a police complaint by her employer.Twenty five year old Sindhu Shivadasan from the state of Kerala was arrested on October 23 from the Sohar hospital where she was receiving treatment for her wounds, allegedly inflicted by the employer's wife for working for another family.The Indian Embassy's welfare department has taken up the case and its officials are trying to meet her in jail, a senior embassy official said.''Sindhu's visa had expired two years ago and her passport is in her employer's custody. She had requested him several times to be sent back home,'' said Yousif Salim, a social worker who visited her in jail and brought the issue to the Indian Embassy's notice said.In his complaint to the Indian Embassy, Salim noted that according to Omani labour laws anyone aged below 30 years is barred from working as a domestic help.According to him, Sindhu reached Sohar hospital at around 11pm on October 22 with bleeding wounds on her face, neck and chest. ''Medical examination revealed that she had been bitten and beaten,'' Salim said.
