US Patriot Coal's Q3 loss widens on weaker sales

(MENAFN) Saint Louis, Missouri-based Patriot Coal's third quarter loss widened to USD215.9 million from USD50.5 million loss a year ago, Business Journals reported. The company attributed the worse quarterly results mainly to lower sales, impairment and restructuring charges, financing fees and reorganization costs. The company reported also a 24 percent decline in quarterly revenue to USD448.6 million compared to a year ago. The company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy on July 9, listing more than USD1 billion in both assets and liabilities in the filing. Patriot has between 10,001 and 25,000 creditors, according to the filing. Last year, Patriot saw its loss more than double to USD115.5 million on revenue of USD2.4 billion.
