Etihad, Emirates cancel flights

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) Four flights scheduled between the UAE and America for Monday have been cancelled, due to worsening weather brought about by the so-called Monster Storm expected to hit the country's east coast. Etihad Airways on Sunday night cancelled two flights scheduled for Monday between Abu Dhabi and New York, though a spokesman said he expected regular operations to resume on Tuesday, dependant on weather. Meanwhile, Emirates airlines announced the cancellation of two Dubai-bound flights due to leave New York on Monday local time (EK201 at 8.30am and EK202 at 11pm) in anticipation of the expected buffeting by Hurricane Sandy. The airline did not cancel flights on Sunday, as all had already departed by the time the weather deteriorated. The full fury of the storm is expected to hit on Monday night local time, meaning there is still almost a full day before the worst will be over. Both airlines said they would monitor the weather in the coming 24 hours and any updates would be communicated on their websites, while Etihad said it was contacting affected passengers and assisting with alternative travel plans.
