Bahrain- Gulf Air halts Basra service

(MENAFN) Bahraini Gulf Air announced that it has stopped its service to the Iraqi city of Basra as a result of commercial reasons, reported Arabian Business. The carrier said that passengers affected by the temporary suspension, those who have already booked tickets, will be contacted by the carrier's customer services team in the coming week to offer alternate options. The carrier, which has re-launched its flights to Iraq before a month, has been struggling to log profits since early 2011 when passenger numbers to the tiny Gulf kingdom declined due to anti-government protests. It is worth noting that in the January-June period, Gulf Air's passenger numbers jumped by 13 percent, whereas seat load factors rose 5 percent from a year ago to 77 percent.
