(MENAFN - Muscat Daily) Saham recorded a surprise 2-1 away win against defending champion Fanja in the third round of the 2012 Omantel Elite League at the Seeb Sports Stadium on Tuesday to stay unbeaten and go on top of the leaderboard with Sur.Saham and Sur - the latter beat Salalah 2-1 in Tuesday's early game - have taken the joint lead with seven points each after three rounds. Fanja is on third with six points, while the winner of Wednesday's Al Nahda-Al Suwaiq match could join Saham and Sur at the top.Forward Mohsin Jawhar had an assist in the first goal and later scored from a free-kick in the first half to help Saham get the better of Fanja.Saham took an early lead when Brazilian striker Leomar D'Silva headed home from a cross sent in from the right by Jawhar in the eight minute.Saham, which last week beat Salalah 3-1 after playing out a goalless draw with Sur in the opening round match, extended its lead in the 33rd minute through Jawhar's sharp free-kick that beat Fanja keeper Harib al Habsi - Ali al Habsi's younger brother.Already 0-2 down, Fanja looked more organised in the second half and reduced the deficit in the 59th minute from a corner.Former Oman international and Fanja skipper Badr al Maimani found midfielder Younis Khalifa at the goalmouth and the latter tapped the ball in past Saham's Kuwaiti keeper Hamid Mohammed.After the win against fancied Fanja, Saham's Romanian coach Cioaba Aristica said, We controlled the first half and scored from the chances that we got. Jawhar is a very senior player in this young side and he was in very good form today. We have done well in the league so far, we haven't lost a match yet. The players are feeling more and more confident with each game.Fanja's Iraqi coach Mudhafar Jabar said, We couldn't score from several chances that we created in the second half. I hope my team bounces back strongly after this defeat.Fanja beat Seeb 1-0 last week in an away game and started its campaign with a 3-1 drubbing of Al Shabab.
