Kuwait- 'Shops, eateries charging extra fees will face law'

(MENAFN- Arab Times) The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has instructed the supervisors of governorates and the commercial inspectors to regularly check shops and record violations, particularly to collect extra fees from consumers like the service and credit card fees, reports Al-Shahed daily quoting sources. Sources revealed the ministry took this step after receiving complaints from a number of consumers. Sources said the inspection campaign started this week in line with ministerial decision number 478/2011 which stipulates penalties for shops, stores or restaurants that charge extra fees. Sources added the inspection teams will strictly enforce the directive without giving preferential treatment to anyone. Sources confirmed all those proven to have violated the directive will be punished accordingly. In another development, Al-Seyassah daily has quoted sources as saying that Minister of Commerce and Industry and State Minister for Housing Affairs Anas Al-Saleh has resigned in protest against the government's decision to issue an emergency decree to reduce the number of candidates each voter is allowed to choose. Sources disclosed the Majority Bloc had allegedly called on Minister of Education and Higher Education Nayef Al-Hajraf, Minister of Communications Salem Al-Utheina, Health Minister Dr Ali Al-Obeidi, Justice Minister Jamal Al-Shihab and Oil Minister Hani Hussein to resign in protest against the amendment of the election system in the absence of the National Assembly.
