Dubai's DEWA awards First Solar 13MW PV solar project


(MENAFN) Dubai Electricity & Water Authority (DEWA) has awarded a contract to US-based First Solar Inc. to build a 13MW photovoltaic (PV) solar power plant in Dubai, WAM news agency reported. Under the deal, First Solar will provide engineering, procurement and construction services, as well as its advanced thin-film PV modules for "Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park" project. The contract also includes the construction of the first phase of the project, the substation and connection to the grid. The project was launched earlier this year, as part of the Dubai Integrated Energy Strategy 2030, with the aim to produce 1 percent of Dubai's total power output from renewable energy by 2020 and 5 percent by 2030, Dewa said. The project is scheduled to be completed by October 2013, Dewa added. The total cost of the project is USD33.75 million.
