UAE- Huawei launches new phone, tablet

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) Information and communications technology solutions provider Huawei on Wednesday unveiled its plans to launch two of its newest smart devices in the UAE, the Ascend D1 quad XL smartphone and MediaPad 10 FHD tablet. Both devices use Huawei's own proprietary quad-core chipset, making the Shenzhen-based company one of only two vendors globally to manufacture its own quad-core processors, the company revealed in a Press conference at Gitex Technology Week. "Huawei has listened to people's top demands and focused significant resources over the past year to bring distinct advancements into the Middle East gadget industry," Huawei Device Middle East president Jiao Jian said. Huawei has carved out a good foothold in the consumer market with its aggressive line-up of high-end devices, which are expected to contribute a 30 per cent growth in the company's global consumer business - with revenues seen at $9 billion by the end of 2012. The company also announced a revved-up focus on strengthening its regional distribution partnerships in the Middle East. It has achieved success in introducing its products in the region, especially in the UAE. "Providing UAE consumers with the latest device technologies has always been a core focus for us," said Mohammed Abdulla Al Qassim, general manager of IMS, one of the leading trading firms in the Middle East. "The gadget industry today is a dynamic business with new opportunities around every corner," said Mansour Al Sayegh, executive director of the Al Sayegh Group, the authorised distributor of Huawei devices. While relatively a newcomer in the smartphone and tablet market, Huawei is already the world's sixth-largest maker of mobile phones, and has ambitious plans to be a top-five vendor by 2015. The Ascend D1 quad XL smartphone features a 4.5" HD screen, with Dolby Mobile 3.0 Plus sound and gives up to 30 per cent longer battery life. The MediaPad 10 FHD tablet is convertible to a notebook with a connectable keyboard, and has a variant that supports LTE Internet speeds. The devices will be retailed for Dh1,699 and Dh1,999, respectively, at leading retail outlets across the UAE.
