UAE- 500,000 animals being imported for Eid Al Adha

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) Director of the Consumer Protection Department of the Ministry of Economy, Dr Hashim Al Nuaimi affirmed that a total of 500,000 livestock has been imported and will arrive in the country within the next two days. The shipment will be distributed to all major markets in the country in order to meet the exorbitant demand during Eid Al Adha. Dr Al Nuaimi was speaking at a press conference on Tuesday following a meeting with livestock dealers at Fujairah and the eastern region markets. He said the livestock shipment includes Iranian, Australian, Indian and Pakistani sheep and goats as well as cows. A great number of livestock is also being raised at local farms to meet the demand. Dr Al Nuaimi pointed out that the Ministry of Economy and municipalities across the country had managed to control and fix the prices to some extent in a way that guarantees that the livestock prices will not go up abruptly during Eid. "There is a 20 per cent drop in price of all types of imported livestock in Fujairah as compared to the corresponding period last year," Al Nuaimi added. The price of sheep and goats in the Fujairah livestock market ranges from between Dh700 and 1100. "The consumer protection department shall not hesitate to issue a fine against dealers caught with a violation during the sacrificial season as per Law No (24) for the year 2006 pertaining to consumer protection," he clarified, explaining that the law stipulates a fine starting from Dh5000 up to Dh100,000 against violators especially those caught selling livestock outside the markets.
