UAE's Etisalat spends USD4.08b on fiber optic network

(MENAFN) The Emirates Telecommunications Corporation's (etisalat) CEO, Saleh Al Abdouli, stated that the company has spent nearly USD4.08 billion to develop its fiber optic network, reported Emirates 24/7. Al Abdouli added that although until now there are no returns made from the fiber optic network, however, the company contributed in supporting the process of sustainable development in the country and achieved network readiness. He added that the total length of the fiber optical network that the company installs now all over the country comprises a total of 2.8 million km of cable. Abu Dhabi, the UAE capital, is the first capital city in the world that is entirely linked to the fiber optic network. It is worth noting that in October 2010, the telecom operator became the first regional telecom company to achieve speeds of 100 Mbps, and recently managed to increase the speed to 300 Mbps in testing its 4G mobile broadband technology, the fastest in the world.
