(MENAFN - Muscat Daily) The Ministry of Education's (MoE) plan to develop the school curriculum for the next two years is based on the needs of students, global trends in education and educational, psychological, social and cognitive principles, according to H E Dr Hamoud bin Khalfan bin Mohammed al Harthy, Undersecretary for Education and Curricula at the Ministry of Education.H E Harthy said that curriculum experts are employing classroom observation and interviewing teachers and students to understand the suitability of the present curriculum. Community partnership principles and the expectations of parents will also be taken into consideration.MoE officials are meeting representatives of higher education institutions to study the needs of institutions and understand what should be included in the curriculum. It is also involving university professors in the development process.H E Harthy added that development is a continuous process and is integrated with several aspects of the educational system. For instance, the current curriculum might have to be enriched to on par with modern methods of assessment or a course may have to be excluded if it is already covered in primary classes.Change may also include the addition of new subjects like the French language or making the syllabus of subjects like mathematics and geography more extensive.
