UAE- EMAL steps up efficiency at landmark aluminium smelter

(MENAFN- Emirates News Agency (WAM)) EMAL has powered its Phase I potline amperage up from 350 kA to 380 kA current, improving efficiency to increase annual production from 750,000 to 800,000 metric tonnes of aluminium per annum. To achieve this latest milestone, EMAL invested in two Recti formers, for each potline to increase power to 87.5kA in each Recti former. In addition, the carbon plant has been upgraded to start producing larger carbon anodes to compliment the increase in power in each reduction cell. Saeed Fadhel Al Mazrooei, EMAL's President and CEO, said: "EMAL does not believe in standing still. EMAL believes in continuous improvement in everything we do to ensure we are at the cutting edge of aluminium production. This new bench mark has been accomplished in keeping with EMAL's core values for investing in today for tomorrow. The increased amperage in our Phase I potlines edges us another step closer to establishing EMAL as the supplier of choice to customers around the world." VP Projects, Yousef Bastaki said: "Upgrading Phase I successfully is the result of teamwork and combined efforts by executives, senior management, operations and project teams, as well as engineers. Implementing this new upgrade on the Emirati Dubal DX Technology is yet another record figure to the long list of achievements of our state-of-the-art smelter."
