Abu Dhabi to host world's leading rheumatology experts


(MENAFNEditorial) Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates - Tuesday, October 9th 2012 More than 400 delegates are expected to visit the UAE capital as it hosts the 2nd Abu Dhabi Advanced Rheumatology Review Course on 13th – 15th October 2012 at the Fairmont Bab Al Bahr. The premiere scientific and educational event in the region will host 18 of the world's leading rheumatology experts who will present their latest clinical research findings through a review course designed to keep participants at the cutting edge of developments in the fields of Rheumatology and Clinical Immunology. Dr Mustafa Al-Maini, MD, Msc FRCPC, Head of Rheumatology, Allergy and Clinical Immunology Department at Mafraq Hospital, is spearheading the efforts to stage the event, following its huge success last year. "The ADARRC is advancing the way rheumatism and autoimmune diseases are being treated in the Emirates with the levels of research and the high quality of interactive learning that will take place in this year's event." The ADARRC course director says rheumatology experts in the UAE as well as throughout the GCC, is expected to benefit from the three-day gathering of global experts. According to the latest figures from the Emirates Arthritis Foundation, 20 per cent of the UAE population is afflicted with arthritis, yet only around 6000 are officially diagnosed. Patients with Rheumatoid arthritis have an average delay in diagnosis of 18 months in the UAE, compared with only 6 months in Europe. "This will help raise awareness about the condition among the general public and enhance specialists understanding of the disease to aid in proper diagnosis and treatment of the disease," Dr Al-Maini added. The Advanced Rheumatology Review Course is a highly recognised event in Europe which gathers leading experts and advances understanding and treatment of rheumatology and autoimmune diseases. The event is being held in Abu Dhabi for the second time, after its successful launch last year.
