(MENAFN - Arab Times) The Misdemeanor Court has acquitted an unidentified youth who was accused of beating a young woman and insulting her in public along the Arabian Gulf street.

Defense lawyer Hawra Al-Habib told the court that it is the duty of the Public Prosecution to prove if someone is guilty because everyone is considered innocent until proven guilty.

Attorney Hawra added the Prosecution did not present any evidence to prove her client guilty.

Moreover, the plaintiff reported the incident 24 hours after it had allegedly occurred something which is unusual because in such incidents people usually rush to report the incident before the injury marks disappear particularly if the attack was not severe.

She added the plaintiff based her evidence on her sister's testimony, whereas she was in a position to seek witnesses at the scene of the incident.

In another case, the Criminal Court, chaired by Judge Wael Al-Atiqi, scheduled a hearing for Nov 4 to look into the case of eight Iraqis accused of killing a Coast Guard officer when they illegally entered the territorial waters of Kuwait.

Corporal Abdul Rahman Al-Enezi, one of the witnesses, disclosed that while he and the victim were on duty, they noticed a ship transporting the suspects who were carrying firearms. When the officers asked them to stop, the suspects refused so an exchange of gunshots between the two parties ensued; causing the death of one of the officers. Four of the suspects were arrested immediately after the exchange of gunshots while the others tried to escape but the backup officers chased them.

Meanwhile, the Criminal Court presided by Judge Abdulnasser Khureibit has set Oct 21 to look into the State Security case of former parliamentary elections contestant who was charged with dishonoring religion on his social networking website Twitter.

The Public Prosecution has charged the defendant with writing offensive news on Twitter which contains words and expressions disrespectful of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
