(MENAFN - ProactiveInvestors - Australia) Conto Resources (ASX: CNO) has begun field based exploration work at its 3.2 square kilometre Lone Wolf Project, located within the well-endowed North-Eastern Goldfields of Western Australia.
The initial field based reconnaissance program aims to assist with understanding the controls and extents of gold mineralisation at Lone Wolf.
The project lies within the Keith-Kilkenny Tectonic Zone, which is about 20 kilometres wide and bounded by the Mt George Shear Zone to the west and the Keith-Kilkenny Lineament and Pig Well Graben to the east.
A review of historical drilling on the project has revealed a number of significant drill intercepts of gold mineralisation, including an intercept of up to 6 metres at 3.35 grams per tonne gold.
The limited, wide spaced drilling outlines a continuous mineralised strike of 830 metres.
In addition to the ground based reconnaissance program, Conto is currently conducting a regional exploration targeting program to identify additional resource opportunities.
The company will undertake a Mobile Metal Ion (MMI) geochemistry survey, which is more sensitive than conventional geochemical methods and is well suited to the exploration environment found at the Lone Wolf.
The geochemical sampling is expected to highlight a number of priority targets and geochemical trends which will be explored by more detailed analysis prior to any drilling assessment.
Detailed geological mapping will also be conducted across the project area.
Conto previously applied for the two prospecting licences that make up the Lone Wolf Project, with both licences granted in June 2012.
