Doha, Qatar “ October 7, 2012 “ Hundreds of music-lovers enjoyed the swinging sounds of jazz by world renowned Jazz artist Wynton Marsalis, who headlined the official inauguration of Jazz at Lincoln Center Doha “ the Middle East's new home for Jazz - at The St. Regis Doha.
In a stirring performance on Thursday evening, the Wynton Marsalis Quintet dazzled and delighted a full-house of enthusiasts, who were treated to two unique sets that showcased some of the very best in jazz music.
The Wynton Marsalis Quintet is playing shows until 8October 2012 and jazz aficionados and VIPs from around the world have travelled to Qatar to enjoy this incredible experience. The excitement continues in coming months as world-class jazz musicians such as Jonathan Batiste and Myron Walden are booked to perform at the world-class venue.
Jazz at Lincoln Center Doha is the first international branded venue of the New York-based Jazz at Lincoln Center, the world's largest cultural institution devoted exclusively to the uniquely American art form of jazz.
Jazz at Lincoln Center Doha will serve as the Middle East's year-round hub for jazz performances, recording and education, and as one of Qatar's preeminent cultural destinations. Jazz at Lincoln Center Doha is the centerpiece of The St. Regis Doha which has quickly become known as Doha's finest address.
Established and up-and-coming jazz musicians from around the world will be able to infuse the region's diverse musical styles while performing on Jazz at Lincoln Center Doha's main stage. Musicians will also be able to record in the state-of-the-art studio, and educate audiences of all ages starting with Music Talks at the hotel.
Marsalis has won nine Grammy Awards and a Pulitzer Prize, and is also a United Nations Messenger of Peace. Marsalis is committed to inspiring and growing audiences for jazz through activities such as concerts, original compositions, and educational programs around the world. Marsalis had previously visited Doha for the announcement of Jazz at Lincoln Center in December 2011, when he met with Omar Al Fardan, the president of Resorts Development Company, owners of The St. Regis Doha.
Before the inauguration, the critically-acclaimed Latin jazz duo The Rodriguez Brothers played at the venue in late September. After this week's grand opening, Jazz at Lincoln Center Doha will be open six nights a week with shows featuring some of the top names in jazz.
But Jazz at Lincoln Center Doha will host more than just concerts, as the venue will continue Jazz at Lincoln Center's tradition of offering a wide variety of innovative cultural and educational programs. For example, a recurring series of pre-concert Jazz Music Talks will educate guests on engaging topics such as "The Blues in Jazz," "Global Influences on Jazz" and "Melodies of Miles Davis."
Jazz at Lincoln Center Doha seats 100 guests in an intimate theatrical setting that harkens back to the luxurious Roaring 1920s. This continues in the tradition of The St. Regis New York, which hosted premier jazz performers in its rooftop ballroom from the 1920s-1940s. Guests can enjoy a menu of New Orleans-inspired cuisine and refined Jazz Age beverages.
