Oman suffers second straight loss


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Oman suffered its second straight defeat at the ACC Elite Trophy 2012, losing to Malaysia by two wickets in their Group A match in Abu Dhabi on Saturday. Nineteen year old medium pacer Nazril Rahman starred for Malaysia with match-winning bowling figures of five for 18 in nine overs as Oman was shot out for 159 in 44.1 overs after being sent in to bat.Vaibhav Wategaonkar top-scored for Oman with 57 while Adnan Ilyas made 44. In reply, Malaysia reached the target with two overs to spare in the 50-over game. Aminuddin Ramly struck 45 and Faizal Abu Hasan made 37. Oman skipper Hemal Mehta and Syed Amir Kaleem collected two wickets each.Oman, which earlier beat Bhutan before losing to Afghanistan, faces Maldives in its last Group A game on Tuesday. Brief scores: Oman 159 in 44.1 overs (Wategaonkar 57, Ilyas 44; Rahman 5-18, Anwar Rahman 3-27) lost to Malaysia 162-8 in 48 overs (Ramly 45; Hemal Mehta 2-27, Syed Amir Kaleem 2-18).
