(MENAFN - Arab Times) "Some individuals are either ignorant of the provisions of the Constitution or are simply trying to impose their fruitless opinions on others", says pro-government MP Yousef Al-Zalzalah, referring to the MPs of the so-called majority bloc who have rejected the government's proposal for issuance of an emergency degree to change the current voting system.
He pointed out that it is the right of HH the Amir to issue emergency decrees for the good of Kuwait and its people, adding, "In response to the useless statements issued by some to impose their opinion regarding the five-constituency and the voting systems, we say 'Do not interfere in the jurisdictions of the Amir. Maintain your limits as you have been disrespectful and impudent'."
Former minister of education and higher education and former lawmaker, Ahmed Al-Mulaifi criticized the so-called majority bloc, stressing the members of the bloc have lost their popularity, which had helped them win the earlier elections.
He predicted that several opposition members will not return to the National Assembly while others will gain lesser votes this time, adding, "Kuwaiti citizens are annoyed with the tactics and actions of the so-called majority bloc."
He said, "Most of the Kuwaiti citizens have broken their silence to denounce the political chaos in Kuwait particularly the use of hatred speeches and insults and to criticize lawmakers who have tampered with democratic responsibility."
Meanwhile, the National Union of Kuwaiti Workers issued a statement recently, through which they criticized those who are supporting the issuance of an emergency decree to reduce the number of votes granted to each voter.
Chairman of the union, Abdulrahman Al-Sumait insisted, "There is no need for such decrees as they are usually issued for urgent situations and not for changing the voting system or electoral constituencies. Such a decree is against the recent verdict of the Constitutional Court which validated the constitutionality of the five-constituency system with four votes per voter."
Al-Sumait indicated that the union will do everything it can to preempt such calls, adding that he is calling on all unions and labor forces as well as political forces to unite and collaborate to prevent such dubious actions.
