(MENAFN - Muscat Daily) Defending champion Fanja began its campaign in the 2012-2013 season with a bang, securing a confident 3-1 victory over Al Shabab in their Omantel Elite League opener at the Seeb Sports Stadium on Thursday.Former Oman international Mohammed Mubarak scored twice, (5th, 30th min), and in between, Younis al Mushaifri struck in the 21st minute as the holders took control of the match by the end of the first half itself.Shabab's Moroccan import Younis Ogana reduced the margin for the away team in the 55th minute.Saif al Sumri, Fanja's team official, said after the comfortable victory, It was a good game for us and we are happy to start the season on a winning note. In our last game, which was an OFA Cup match, we defeated AlMusannah 6-0 and team has been in good form since then.We are looking forward to putting up good performances throughout this season. We are aiming to do well, not only here in Oman, but also in regional and continental competitions.In another match played later that day at the same venue, midfielder Raeed Ibrahim scored in the 68th minute to help Al Arouba snatch a 1-0 win against Musannah.Elsewhere in opening-day games, Al Nahda edged Al Talee'a 1-0 and Sur played a goalless draw with Saham at the Sur Sports Complex.Salalah blanked Seeb 3-0 and Dhofar beat Al Nasr 3-2 in a Salalah derby at the Al Saada Sports Complex, while in a clash between former champions, Al Suwaiq held Oman to a 1-1 draw at the Sohar Sports Complex.
