Shell launches exploratory drilling off Alaska's north coast

(MENAFN) Shell Alaska spokesman, Curtis Smith, announced that the company has started exploratory drilling in the Beaufort Sea off Alaska's north coast, reported AP. Smith said that Shell hopes to carry on drilling until the end of the seasonal deadline, which is on October 31, adding that drilling was launched after the end of an Alaska Native whale hunt. In September, the oil giant said that it would carry out drilling in non-petroleum zones this year, as the company can't drill into those zones until its spill response barge is in place. It is worth noting that Royal Dutch Shell PLC has spent USD4.5 billion on Arctic offshore drilling.
