Iran starts drilling at Persia 1 rig at Azar oil field

(MENAFN) Iran's Oil Industries Engineering and Construction Company's Drilling Manager, Fazel Jamalzadeh, stated that the country has launched drilling at the "Persia 1" rig at the Azar oil field, reported Tehran Times. Jamalzadeh said that 19 oil wells would be drilled in the oil field, with each well forecasted to yield 4,000 barrels of oil per day. The oil field development project would boost the country's crude oil output by 65,000 barrels per day (bpd), once completed. The Azar oil field, which is shared with Iraq, extends on an l area of 482 square kilometers in southeast of Mehran town in the western Iranian province of Ilam. It is worth noting that Iran's Oil Ministry signed a USD1.9 billion contract with a consortium of local firms in October 2011 for the development of the Azar oil field.
