(MENAFN - Khaleej Times) Attorney-General of Abu Dhabi Yousef Saeed Al Ibri has formed a committee to investigate the collapse of the car park roof of Al Rayyan residential complex in Khalifa A City on Sunday night.
The entire roof of the parking area of the residential complex suddenly collapsed in the night, damaging most of the cars parked inside at the time. Fortunately, no one in the complex which houses hundreds of residents was injured.
Al Ibri on Tuesday asked the Abu Dhabi Public Prosecution to form a committee for the investigation into the accident and find out what caused the parking roof collapse that could have resulted in massive casualties.
He also asked the prosecution department to directly report the findings to his technical office without any delay.
According to a statement, following the Attorney-General's instruction, a probe team has already been formed that has moved to the site of the accident.
"The committee has summoned the consultant and contractor of the residential complex project in addition to municipality engineers to record their statements and explain how the roof collapsed," it said.
The Public Prosecution will also have a specialised committee with representatives from other independent parties as members to examine the site and decide on the reasons behind the roof collapse.
According to the Abu Dhabi Police, the entire roof of the parking covering an area of 1,400 square metres suddenly collapsed and damaged most of the vehicles parked at the time of the incident.
Immediately after receiving the report, rescue and search teams and ambulances with paramedics rushed to the scene where a field hospital was established for the safety of the residents of the complex. All residents were immediately evacuated and provided accommodation in a hotel of the property's management.
