Iran lifts ban on Gmail service

(MENAFN) An Iranian official said that the government has left its ban on Gmail since Sunday night, just a week after blocking the service, reported Arab News. Iranian news agencies reported that the ban was originally imposed to block the access on Google Inc's YouTube service, following the release of the anti-Islam film that caused rage all through the Muslim world. Even though the Islamic Republic has one of the world's largest internet filters, banning access to tens of thousands of websites including Facebook and YouTube "as they are criminal or immoral", however, the ban on Gmail had even provoked complaints in the Parliament. It is worth noting that the Iranian telecommunications ministry is looking for a way to block the YouTube in the HTTPS protocol, while leaving Gmail available.
