(MENAFN - Muscat Daily) The Sultan Qaboos Hospital's cardiac centre, constructed by Galfar Engineering and Contracting and designed and supervised by Asie Etudes Engineering Consultancy LLC (AEEC), will provide the highest quality of cardiac care to people in the Dhofar region, according to a press release.The release said that Galfar and AEEC, with their experience and expertise, have the know-how to design and execute a specialised project of this nature. Planned, designed and built as per international guidelines of the Health Building Notes, the Health Technical Memoranda and the American Institute ofArchitects, the cardiac centre is equipped to meet international standards of healthcare.The 12,000sq m, three-storied centre will eventually be connected and integrated with the Sultan Qaboos Hospital by an air-conditioned underground tunnel for uninterrupted patient and staff movement. The centre is equipped with a helipad for airlifting critical patients.Adequate car parking facilities for staff, patients and visitors have been provided, taking future needs into account. Medical and non-medical areas have been zoned according to the best medical practices and end-user requirements, the release added.The architectural design of the facility provides for courtyards, terraces and landscaping that create an ambience for speedy healing and take into consideration the socio-cultural traditions and practices of the region. The facility will include a full-fledged cardiac out patient department, two operating theatres, a catheterisation laboratory, an eight-bed post cardiac surgical unit or intensive care unit, an eight-bed high dependency ward, a central sterile service department and four private wards, besides a 38-bed multi-sharing ward, one twin sharing ward and a dedicated imaging department comprising a gamma camera and providing CT (computed tomography) scan, MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) and X-ray.The centre has a clinical chemistry lab, special chemistry lab, microbiology lab and haematology lab. Other supporting facilities include a bio-medical workshop, kitchen, laundry, hospital pharmacy, staff cafeteria and stores and offices for administration and records.
