Japan's Cosmo Oil shuts Yokkaichi CDU for maintenance

(MENAFN) Japan-based Cosmo Oil Co has announced the implementation of a scheduled repairs on its No.5 crude distillation unit (CDU) at its Yokkaichi refinery in western Japan, Reuters reported. The maintenance at the 90,000 bpd facility is set to last until Nov. 14, a company spokeswoman said. The shutdown of the facility will cut the company's operating CDU capacity to 325,000 bpd. Cosmo Oil has been unable to restart its biggest 220,000 bpd Chiba refinery since May partly because of an asphalt leak from the refinery into the sea. The company, which operates four domestic refineries with a total capacity of 635,000 bpd, said it expects Chiba refinery to go online by the end of this year.
