Kuwait- 'Storming' verdict set

(MENAFN- Arab Times) The Criminal Court chaired by Counselor Hisham Al-Abdullah will Monday issue the final verdict in the storming of Al-Watan Satellite Channel in which 12 people are standing trial. The Public Prosecu-tion charged the defendants for attacking and stoning security operatives while on official duty to protect the TV channel, and medical reports confirm the officers sustained injuries during the incident. The defendants are also accused of gathering in a public place with the aim of committing crime and rousing public disorder. Defendant counsel Mohammad Munawer Al-Mutairi argues the writ of summon does not contain any proof worthy of discussion, so everything in the document indicates hearsay and the statements of detectives. In another case, the Court of Appeals presided by Judge Saleh Al-Muraished dismissed the verdict of First Instance Court against a citizen charged for the possession of amphetamine for consumption purpose. The Court of First Instance had earlier sentenced the Kuwaiti to two years in prison with hard labor and immediate execution of punishment, plus KD 200 fine for keeping an unspecified quantity of the contraband. At the hearing, the court assigned a lawyer to defend the citizen when he refuted all allegations leveled against him. The court agreed the procedure of arrest was wrong because the prosecuting officer had no warrant to arrest the suspect.
