Haj pilgrims told to get required vaccinations

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times)  Haj and Umrah pilgrims must receive their vaccinations as early as possible, said Dr Mahmoud Fikri, Assistant Undersecretary for Health Policies at the Ministry of Health. Required vaccinations can be taken at all the ministry's health centres and preventive medicine departments of all medical districts. Dr Mahmoud Fikri stated that all the health conditions required by Saudi Arabia are to ensure that pilgrims are safe from infectious diseases and viruses. The conditions state that all Haj and Umrah pilgrims must have a vaccination certification against meningitis before his/her arrival to the kingdom. The date of vaccination should be at least 10 days before and within three years of the pilgrimage. The ministry provides vaccinations for adults and children 'two years or more' with a new dose of the quartet vaccine. The ministry also advises all pilgrims to take the seasonal influenza vaccine especially those patients who suffer from chronic diseases such as heart and kidney problems, respiratory diseases, diabetes, and immune compromised patients as well as metabolic diseases as stated in the pilgrims health card, he added. "Thanks to the efforts of the Ministry of Health, the medical delegation will provide brochures and leaflets that would explain the ways of preventing infectious diseases, types, symptoms, transmission ways, complications and protection," he elaborated. Dr Fikri indicated that the health authorities in Saudi Arabia prevents all pilgrims, especially those travelling by land, to bring their own food unless they are sealed in containers that can be opened easily.
