Qatar- Security firms welcome new MoI standards


(MENAFN- The Peninsula)  DOHA: The significance of setting professional standards on the country's security sector was given impetus at the sixth general assembly meeting of American Society for Industrial Security (ASIS) Qatar Chapter yesterday at Hemaya Headquarters. Recent reports that the General Guarding Department at the Ministry of Interior (MoI) has issued a memorandum asking security companies to submit employment details and personnel information have been welcomed by the security sector seeing it an initial move to set standards in this important sector. Addressing the ASIS Qatar members yesterday, Timur Shah Khalid of G4S who is the Chapter's Secretary, said according to the MoI all security companies in Qatar will have to undergo a security standards programme, although they are still waiting for further instructions. "We have been waiting for that and we are happy things are moving," said Sailhesh Kumar, Training Manager at G4S Qatar. "Like in any company in the service sector, benchmarking is very important because it raises the standard and allows for competition," added Kumar, who discussed on internationally recognised professional security certifications offered by ASIS. Established four years ago, ASIS Qatar Chapter currently has over 80 members from various private and government companies and still growing, said Dr Saif Hajri, Chapter Chairman. Some of the new members come from the Qatar Olympic Committee, Qatar Museums Authority, and Ministry of Interior, said Dr Hajri, who encouraged all security companies, hotels, banks and other private companies to join the Society. Present in 77 countries including the GCC, ASIS currently has 38,000 members around the world. "It is aimed at networking among members, sharing critical information related to security, professional development and providing certification recognized all over the world," said Kumar.
