UAE- September 30 deadline for photography contest

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) September 30 has been set as the submission deadline for the Emirates Photography Competition (EPC). The Abu Dhabi Tourism and Culture Authority, organisers of one of the world's best-rewarded international photo contest, has already received thousands of entries. Last year alone, EPC drew over 15,000 entries from 134 countries. Held under the patronage of the International Federation of Photographic Art (FIAP), the annual competition, now in its seventh year, carries a prize purse of over $135,000. As in previous years, there is a main theme, which is Cultural Reflections, focusing on the rich diversity of cultural heritage of people worldwide. Organisers explained that this main theme was inspired by Iraqi photographer Murad Al Daghistani (1917-1982), thereby paying tribute to his work. "Daghistani was a contemporary of a period that played a major role in the development of classic documentary photography," said Bader Al Nomani, EPC manager. For the first time, the competition will also feature a special prize recognising Fine Arts in Photography, which consists of three gold medals for the best works that present modern innovative ideas that contribute to developing of photography. The Noor Ali Rashed Award will be back, and will be given to the Emirati photographer for work that highlights the UAE environmental and cultural symbols. The award is a special accolade that pays tribute to Emirati photographer Noor Ali Rashed (1929 - 2010), whose historical photographs contributed to the documentation of Abu Dhabi's royal family and of Emirati society in general.
