Kuwait metro project's first phase study almost complete

(MENAFN- Arab Times) Study plans for the first phase of Kuwait's metro project are almost complete and await the approval of the Higher Committee for Government-sanctioned Projects ahead of accepting bids for the project before the end of the year, said director of the technical apparatus for development projects Adel Al-Roumi on Tuesday. The committee will hold a meeting next month to adopt and approve bidding papers, Al-Roumi told KUNA on the sidelines of the Kuwaiti-Japanese Businessmen's Committee meeting that was held in headquarters of the Kuwait Chamber of Commerce and Industry's (KCCI). Al-Roumi said the Kuwait metro project needs a vast infrastructure and it is bigger than Dubai's Metro, noting that as soon as the bidding winner is announced work on the project will begin in 2013. The metro project is expected to be fully ready in 2020, and the aspired plan is for the metro network to reach all areas in Kuwait, he said.
