Brazil issues order to arrest Google's president

(MENAFN) An order to detain the director of Google's operations in Brazil, Fabio Jose Silva Coelho, was issued by Judge Flavio Peren of Mato Grosso do Sul state, reported AP. The decision, which was refused by the US company, was taken as Google failed to remove two YouTube videos that attack Alcides Bernal, a mayoral candidate. Brazil's electoral law has a number of restrictions on what opponents or critics can air on television and radio about candidates for office, however, the role of the internet in these cases, until now, was not legally explored, since the government does not license the internet and was considered by most exempt from the law. Peren's decision also included an order to remove the videos that make incendiary comments about an alleged paternity suit aimed at Bernal, and a statewide, 24-hour suspension of Google and You Tube. It is worth noting that Google is appealing the verdict that ordered the removal of the YouTube videos, as the company is not liable for the content posted on its site.
