(MENAFN) Qatar Airways announced that early next year, it will start its Najaf service, the company's third route in Iraq, reported Arabian Business. The airline said that the 4-weekly non-stop flights to the city will bring its frequency to Iraq to 12 services per week from 8 flights. At the current time, Qatar Airways operates 4 weekly flights between Doha and the cities of Baghdad and Erbil, two routes that were launched on January 23, 2012. It is worth noting that the southern city of Najaf is situated 160km from Baghdad. It is home to the holy Imam Ali mosque. The city receives millions of pilgrims each year who travel to visit the Imam Ali shrine, one of the most respected holy Islamic sites.
