(MENAFN - Muscat Daily) The Tender Board has awarded a RO14.5mn contract for the construction of a mid-sized fishing harbour in the wilayat of Taqah, in Dhofar Governorate.According to sources in the construction industry, STFA, a large Turkish engineering and contracting company, has won the project. More than 20 local and international construction companies participated in the tender, which was floated by the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries last year.An official at STFA told Muscat Daily that the company appears to have won the project as the awarded price is same as the bid price of the company in the tender.He said, ''The awarded price is our price and we expect it has been awarded to us. But we have officially not received any letter. I think we will have letter of award from the ministry within 10-15 days.''The official added, ''It is a mid-sized harbour project. The contract duration is 19 months including three months of mobilisation.''We already have our machinery in Duqm and once we receive the letter of award we will start construction.''The Taqah harbour work broadly consists of construction of a 150m-long concrete quay line, construction of 1,783m breakwater, reclamation works, roads and pavements, dredging of harbour basin to 5m depth, marina facility and slipway.Galfar Engineering and Contracting Company was recently awarded an RO10.9mn contract for the construction of a fishing harbour in the wilayat of Barka.According to sources, tenders for fishing harbours in Duqm, Musannah and Nubur in Liwa are also expected to be announced in the near future.
