(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Knowledge Oasis Muscat (KOM), the technical arm of the Public Establishment for Industrial Estates (PEIE), recently organised a Mobile Health workshop (mHealth) at Grand Hyatt Muscat.Moderated by Dr Askar Kukkadi, consultant pediatrician and medical director, Starcare Hospital, Seeb, the workshop was attended by leaders and key decision makers from the health sector, telecom companies and other businesses.Mohamed al Maskari, general manager, KOM, underlined the aspired objectives of mHealth seminar and workshop. ''The main objective of holding these two events is to encourage implementation of the recommendations that were made at the recently-held seminar.''One of the most important recommendations of the seminar was to overcome any obstacles facing as regards to the mHealth by evaluating the available technologies.''In the last 42 years, we have made remarkable progress and we have reached so far. It is now time to move on and adopt more advanced technologies in the area of mHealth,'' said Dr Wahid al Kharousi, a retired ambassador, working at the Ministry of Foreign affairs.Kharousi said, ''We have to take advantage of the community we are living in. Mobile Health is an innovative way of supporting the healthcare delivery system, to better serve both the community and the authorities."So, why don't we use mobile phones to reach our targets and objectives? It is an effective and affordable communication system that positively impacts the society as a whole.''Kharousi mentioned that mHealth can be utilised as an integrating system for clinical care, medical records, pharmaceutical delivery system, radio-diagnosis, connectivity with patients in remote areas, advocacy and research, and follow up of care.He added that the National Association for Cancer Awareness has been organising an outreach programme for women, which offers a free service as well as immediate results.
