UAE- 31,600 buildings covered under fire safety drive


(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) Civil Defence inspectors visited as many as 31,647 establishments and buildings in industrial areas countrywide and violations in 13,400 of them were cleared, Major-General Rashid Thani Al Matrooshi, Acting Commander General of Civil Defence at the Interior Ministry, said. Addressing a press conference at the Interior Ministry on Monday to announce the outcome of the National Safety Campaign in industrial areas countrywide, he said the number of establishments found breaching safety rules stood at 15,197. He added that a total of 53,426 workers were nominated for fire drills in all industrial areas. "The number of employees in the establishments and buildings visited by the Civil Defence personnel accounted for 1,420,668, and 117 printed guide leaflets were distributed to them during the campaign," he said. "Recommendations to turn the industrial areas in the country as examples for international safety have been laid," he added. He described the campaign as essential to the Interior ministry. The accomplishments made by the drive include training five per cent of the workers in every establishment on protection from fire and setting up an online database on the level of risks at the establishments in the industrial zones. "The National Safety Campaign is the first media and guide drive of its kind in the region, with the aim of spreading the culture of safety and awareness among workers," he said.
