Oman- Hungarian surgeon joins Al Raffah Hospital

(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Dr Szabolcs Papp, a specialist in laparoscopic surgery, recently joined Al Raffah Hospital as a senior consultant. The  Hungarian doctor previously worked in the UK. Addressing the media on Monday, Dr Papp said, ''There isn't much that I, along with my team, cannot do for patients here. We have the latest equipment and are familiar with the recent techniques. We have a dedicated surgical unit just for laparoscopic surgeries. We have already started to see an increase in patients which works well for us as the procedure is comparatively quick and we can carry out a high number of operations weekly.''Dr Papp said that there is a lot of scope for working with patients who need bariatric surgery, or weight-loss surgery due to obesity, diabetes or cardiac risk, all of which are increasingly prevalent in Oman. ''We can do almost anything laparoscopically, or the keyhole way these days and the benefits for the patient are increasing.  There is less scarring compared to open surgery as the insertion is smaller and can be done in a more discreet area. ''Recovery time is a fraction. Even after some of the larger procedures, patients can often return home the same day.''He said that cancer surgeries using laparoscopy are on the rise. ''Another area of concern is the rise in colo-rectal issues in Oman due to diet and not enough water consumption. Many instances of hemorrhoids, fissures, hernias and even gall bladder issues come in every day, all of which can be treated at the hospital.''Dr Ashik Sainu, medical director, Al Raffah Hospital, said, ‘We are happy to welcome Dr Papp to boost our excellent team of doctors. ''His knowledge will enhance our surgical expertise and range of procedures performed. He has a significant role to play in completing the gastroenterology and GI (gastrointestinal) surgical team.  The team will also soon be offering complete bariatric solutions for weight loss and full range of GI surgery including oncological surgeries.''
