China's Foxonn closes plant on violent riots


(MENAFN) Foxconn Technology Group, the supplier of Apple Inc. products in China, said that it closed one of its plants in the Asian country following the eruption of violent riots, reported MarketWatch, citing Xinhua News. Foxonn's spokesman, Louis Woo, stated that the firm was still investigating the reason behind the fight that led to the injury of 11 people. The plant, which is located in Taiyuan in northern China's Shanxi province, employs around 79,000 workers. According to Bloomberg News, the fight was between rival work gangs operated by an outside firm. Around 5,000 police officers were called in to restore order, according Xinhua News, which added that crowds were eventually dispersed. In March, the factory, one of nearly 20 manufacturing facilities in China operated by Hon Hai, saw a strike over promised pay-increases. It is worth noting that the plant manufactures the back plate for the new iPhone 5, according to NBC.
