(MENAFN - Muscat Daily) Dr Mohan Varma, dean, Waljat College of Applied Sciences (WCAS), recently announced the formation of Entrepreneurship Club' to inculcate the spirit of innovation and entrepreneurship among the students of the college. This announcement was made in the presence of Salah bin Hilal al Maawali, director general of Small and Medium Enterprises, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, who recently visited the college and addressed the students.Salah said that the true essence of entrepreneurship is to have a noble idea, pursue it with dedication and patience. He also conducted an interactive session on opportunities and challenges that an entrepreneur faces in establishing a small enterprise in Oman.Setting up an enterprise is not an easy task but committed entrepreneurs can surely succeed and open doors of opportunities to many others. He gave examples to students from real life experiences, including the problems encountered in initial phase, obstacles faced while attempting to make a mark and turning the corner to establish a successful venture. He focussed on the need of networking and said networking alone one can get sizable business.Students asked questions based on different aspects of setting up small and medium enterprises in Oman. The session was informative and benefited the students of WCAS.Dr Varma also said that there is an urgent need to make the students aware of entrepreneurship programmes early in their life and motivate them to innovate and set up their own enterprise to provide jobs to others than be just a job seeker after their education. He mentioned that if one gets employment he feeds his own family members but an entrepreneur supports tens and hundreds of families and contributes to the economic development of the country. He hoped that newly formed Entrepreneurship Club' at WCAS would provide a learning platform to the young students to develop necessary skills to become a successful entrepreneur.
