(MENAFN - Muscat Daily) A team from the Department of Earth Sciences in SQU is studying the possible presence of two new magnetic hills in Oman.''A magnetic hill, stretching nearly 100m has been observed in Bahla and another one in Barka. Currently, our department is carrying out further studies on these hills,'' said Prof Sunder Rajan, from the department.''These magnetic hills were first noticed by our students. We are studying the mountains near these hills to know the amount of magnetic components in them.''He said that these magnetic hills cannot be called 'gravity points'.''By its nature, the earth attracts matter. Magnetic hills are, on the other hand, different, where deposits of magnet attract a huge mass of matter.''He did not rule out the possibility of more magnetic hills in Oman. ''There is a possibility of more magnetic hills in Bahla.''Meanwhile, vehicle owners are flocking to Qantab, where a new magnetic hill was observed recently. When asked about the slope on the Qantab road, Prof Rajan said, ''Even if there is 5 slope on the terrain, there is a possibility of a magnetic hill.''
