UAE- Jazeera posts 25% passenger growth

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) Jazeera Airways announced that it saw a 25 per cent increase in passenger numbers last month, compared to same period last year, and in line with the 23 per cent increase in total traffic at Kuwait International Airport in the same month. The increase was led by more people choosing to fly to Amman, Bahrain, Dubai, Istanbul, Riyadh and Sohag this year versus last year, the airline said in its August 2012 Operational Performance Report. The report, which also presents market share figures based on official statistics from Kuwait's Directorate General for Civil Aviation, showed that the airline continued to have market share lead on key routes, and a continued lead in on-time performance, or OTP, against all other airlines in the Middle East as ranked by the independent US-based OTP tracker FlightStats. The airline's OTP for the month was 96 per cent, making Jazeera Airways the most punctual airline in the Middle East for the 20th month in a row according to FlightStats. Other report highlights include that the airline was the leading Kuwaiti airline to the high-demand summer destinations of Amman, Dubai, Bahrain and Beirut in addition to capturing leading market share figures on five of the six Egyptian destinations it serves. Jazeera Airways, which was established in 2005, had a 30 per cent market share on the Kuwait-Alexandria route, a 58 per cent market share on the Kuwait-Sharm El Sheikh route, a 47 per cent market share on the Kuwait-Assiut route, a 36 per cent market share on the Kuwait-Sohag route, and a 75 per cent market share on the Kuwait-Luxor route. The report also showed that Jazeera Airways was the leading Kuwaiti airline between Kuwait and Amman with a 36 per cent market share, Kuwait and Beirut with a 33 per cent market share, Kuwait and Bahrain with an eight per cent market share, and Kuwait and Dubai with a 15 per cent market share. In 2011, the airline carried 1.2 million passengers in total across its network that includes high-demand business, leisure, family and weekend destinations.
