(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Telecom services provider Omantel organised a meeting for its corporate clients by hosting renowned speaker and best selling author, Mary Buffet, at Shangri-La's Barr al Jissah Resort & Spa last week.The meeting was part of the Omantel Business Alliance, a forum that helps recognise and foster thought leadership. The Alliance brings the company's corporate customers closer to some of the best and brightest business minds, who have a significant impact on the world.Mary, the guest speaker who talked about Global Trends and Financial Investment Strategy, said investment in education will help reduce unemployment and produce wide-spread long-term results in the economy.Citing an example, she said that the US unemployment rate was 8.6 per cent by the end of 2011. However, the unemployment rate among those who have a professional degree was merely two per cent.She also said that the jobs in the manufacturing sector in the US numbered 18mn in 1965, which has not changed even now, despite a 150 per cent growth in population. ''Globalisation could provide the services of a less skilled workforce at a competitive cost...''Mary, who is also the daughter-in-law of arguably the greatest investor of all time, Warren Buffett, said the Middle East region would be an important growth area in the coming years, with its excellent equity markets, investment banks and wealth funds putting their money in European assets.''The Middle East activity has picked up and the cash-rich Gulf countries are picking up European assets.''Latin American countries, according to Mary, are one of the best examples of growth economies.As many as 300 top-level finance professionals, especially chief financial officers, from Oman's corporate sector have attended the meeting, which was held under the auspices of Eng Sultan bin Hamdoon al Harthy, chairman of both Muscat Municipality and Omantel.Dr Amer Awadh al Rawas, CEO of Omantel, said that catering to the business segment is a key priority for Omantel.
