Oman- ITA adopts eAccessibility policy for elderly, disabled

(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) The Information Technology Authority (ITA) will adopt an eAccessibility policy for the elderly and disabled in order to provide them equal opportunities and ensure ease of access. The new policy emphasises that government agencies must ensure that public information and eServices can be accessed by the disabled and elderly, and allow for ease of access to other computer-based services, information and communication technology. Private sector entities are to have 'certain eAccessibility policies in place' and 'regularly monitor them', according to an ITA statement.H E Ali al Sunaidy, ITA chairman, recently signed the policy in cooperation with The Global Initiative for Inclusive ICTs (g3ict), as well as public and private organisations in Oman.Prior to signing the agreement, ITA held meetings with the organisations to develop a policy that will facilitate disabled individuals' access to websites and electronic services, and discuss the constraints of implementing software applications that ease access.Government agencies will organise specialised information and communication technology training programmes for the disabled to improve performance, ITA said. ITA will also monitor and report on the progress and implementation of the policy.
