UAE- Motorists advised to pick safe spot to change flat tyres

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) A senior official of the Umm Al Quwain Police urged motorists to be careful when they change the tyres on the road. Last Tuesday, two Asian residents received serious injuries while changing the flat tyre of the vehicle they were travelling in. According to Captain Abdullah Rashid, Head of Traffic Patrols of the Umm Al Quwain Police, the accident took place on the Emirates Road in Umm Al Quwain and the duo have been shifted to the UAQ Hospital for treatment. "Two other passengers in the speeding vehicle, which is to blame for the mishap, were moderately injured and were also shifted to the UAQ Hospital," said. He said the mishap occurred on Tuesday at 3pm near Exit 96 of Emirates Road. "The errant motorist, who was heading from Sharjah in the direction of Ras Al Khaimah, suddenly veered off the road and collided with the pick-up parked at the overhead shoulder. "The two Asian victims, who were changing the tyre, were first hit by the speeding vehicle, which then hit the pick-up. Two more passengers, who were sitting in the pick-up sustained fractures," he added. Captain Rashid said though six passengers were travelling in the erring vehicle, only two received minor injuries. Meanwhile, a young Arab mother in her twenties along with her five-year-old girl, were run over while crossing the King Faisal Road in Umm Al Quwain. "Though the inattentive motorist is to blame for the accident, the duo, who, received moderate to serious injuries, share responsibility for crossing the road at a non-pedestrian area," said Lt-Col Saeed Obaid bin Aran, Director of Traffic and Patrols Department of the UAQ Police.
