Oman picked for AFC's development project


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Oman is among 11 countries picked by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) for a new development programme, according to the-afc.com, the Asian football body's official website.The AFC's pilot project will focus on the development of clubs and leagues at the national level. The AFC said it will later throw open the programme to all its other member nations.Kaita Sugihara, the AFC's head of development, said that the vision of the project is to 'strengthen' its member associations by improving the 'level' of league and club football management through the delivery of 'tailor-made services'.The programme will see the selected countries go through development activities in various aspects, like league marketing, league mentoring, event management, seminars on sponsorship for clubs, fan development, team management, and much more.The AFC will carry out the programme with FIFA's assistance and a panel of consultants, who will help the participating associations focus on the areas they want to work on. The participating nations are Oman, Bangladesh, Iran, Jordan, Malaysia, Myanmar, Pakistan, Philippines, Sri Lanka, UAE and Yemen.Meanwhile, an AFC delegation is on a visit to Muscat to conduct a series of workshops and gain first hand knowledge of the domestic league. The delegation held a meeting with Sheikh Hazzaa al Saadi, the OFA's CEO, on Saturday.Also present were Abdulrahim al Hajri, the OFA's?technical advisor, Sheikh Shabib al Hosni, director of administration and support services, and Talib Hilal, national beach football coach.
